The background to the handprint collection

Short video on Thérèse Fahy 'Handprint' project, which develops a recital programme around six commissioned works by Irish composers Raymond Deane, Siobhán Cleary, Benjamin Dwyer, Gráinne Mulvey, Michael Holohan and Bill Whelan. Each of the pieces were written with smaller hands in mind, with the intention of creating a body of work accessible to all pianists, regardless of hand size, while being no less technically and musically challenging. The six works were premiered on 8 March at the 2014 New Music Dublin festival at the National Concert Hall, and receive further performances as part of 'Handprint: Before and Beyond', a short concert series at the Hugh Lane Gallery featuring pieces selected by the programmed composers which were influential on their own work.
